Quote of the Week:

"An industrial capitalist society that does not recognize ecological limits but only perpetual economic expansion and has the profit motive as driver, will eventually consume and destroy itself."

"But we will all be taken down with it."

UF Tasering
I am sure that you guys have seen/heard about the University of Florida student who was tasered during a John Kerry speech at his school. But I thought I would post the link anyway. According to the CNN article, Kerry stated that, "I was not aware that a taser was used until after I left the building." I thought I should juxtapose that statement by one made by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. The true neighbor will risk his position, his prestige and even his life for the welfare of others.

mooncakes anyone?
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival everyone! (or: 中秋节 快乐!)
Have some tea, eat & give mooncakes, stare at the moon...
干杯! (ganbei!)

K-S just tells me that she dreamed we went to Barcelona. She said it looked like some mixture of Vienna and Bogotá, which she thinks is probably accurate. Funny, because I just scratched out something in my new journal about wanting to see it as well. Great timing, K-S's dreams.

Also, we've got a new apartment, it seems. Itty-bitty Pilsen bedrooms, gigantic living room. A backyard with a picnic table. I'm sold, mostly on the high ceilings that could fit in three dozen folks with ease. I'm absolutely looking forward to the housewarming bash. I have this idea that it would be fun to have a party that includes some of those Goshen people who living in Chicago that I never see.

dream theater
A couple months ago I did a music video and we ended up shooting for many many hours. I was in charge of all the lighting effects on a really crappy old board that wasn't very easily programmable. small 15 character display, not a full screen. poop. so anyway, imagine me, late at night, bang on a lighting cues while falling asleep to this music.

here's the video

Cross-stitch vs. LED matrix

Did you mama teach you how to cross-stitch?

If I ever have kids, I'm totally going to teach them how to sew an LED matrix onto their school bags.

Leah Buechley, you're my hero.
