Quote of the Week:

"An industrial capitalist society that does not recognize ecological limits but only perpetual economic expansion and has the profit motive as driver, will eventually consume and destroy itself."

"But we will all be taken down with it."

Robin WengerMy two cents on ego surfing, the Internet Archive, and potential offspring

In addition to handy little Rule #5, it's also useful to remember that everything you've every posted on the internet, whether you've since thought better of it or not, will be available at the Internet Archive for perpetuity.

So whenever you post something on the internet, entertain yourself with the following:

1. Do I ever expect to have kids?
2. Do I think those kids will be curious about what their father/mother wrote on the internet 20 years ago?
3. Do I expect those kids to be smart enough to use a combination of googling, clever deduction, and the WayBackMachine to find it?
4. Will my hypothetical pride in their cleverness outweigh my overwhelming feeling of shame and humiliation when they discover the first website I ever designed?

Of course, having boy scouts with the same name as you can come in handy.

You can auction off your gmail account. Going prices on E-bay are around $60 (or £35). Expect the market to bottom out when people figure out they can just start up a blogger account to get a free invitation.
