Quote of the Week:

"An industrial capitalist society that does not recognize ecological limits but only perpetual economic expansion and has the profit motive as driver, will eventually consume and destroy itself."

"But we will all be taken down with it."

nice sunny weather
i had a great weekend!
on friday i paid rent, worked two different jobs, had dinner with my mom before she left for france and saw Freddy Cole (Nat "King" Cole's brotha) at the Kennedy Center, all of these events i was at least a half an hour late for.

saturday i rocked it at the bike shop, bank, library and eastern market. there were at lest two cops on every corner starting from east of the white house to the GW campus where they got a lot thicker, many streets were closed off to cars and some even to pedestrians. motorcycle cops were buzzing everywhere and lines of cop vans were found on street corners. it seemed like the MPD was gearing up for some sort of IMF/world bank protest. coincidentally, the G7 meetings were happening inside of what they had blocked-off, confusingly, is that the cops out numbered protesters about 200 to 1. i met about 30 protesters in all. what happened to all the protesters? was the police department aware that there wasn't going to be a giant mobilization like there was in april? were they there for the 400 or so people gathered at the ellipse to mourn for the deaths in Iraq? my guess is they were there mostly to secure the area around the Bank, but still, it seemed very over done. Jubilee USA was at the world bank, and kids from Jonah House were at the ellipse. On my way home i biked through about 300 people running around in red dresses, that was also very bizarre...

heh...

on another note, i learned that Chez Antoine is trying to sell, maybe i'll buy, wouldn't that be fun...
